If you can somehow look back all the way to this year's humble beginnings, you'd know that HP was
already whispering about LED-backlit laptops, and while it's taken a tick to hear something official, it looks like the long-awaited upgrade to LED-based displays will be landing shortly. The HP Compaq
2510p 12.1-inch laptop and
2710p tablet PC will reportedly be the first two on the list to receive such treatment, and while we've already seen the majority of the specifications for the both of 'em, the tantalizing Illumi-Lite display is definitely icing on the cake. Unfortunately, pricing information is still being held behind tight lips, but the firm's duo of LED-packin' machines are scheduled to ship out in Q3 of this year.

It's interesting to note there is an option to ship with FreeDOS - this would make it easy for people to install Linux or other operating system without having to pay the Microsoft Tax.

All and all a very nice option, if it had a spill proof keyboard it would have better features than the luxurious Macbook Pro, all in a 3.6 lb tablet.
If this model has a reasonable price, it'll be my next portable after said Macbook Pro (though I'd miss the big screen, the system is too big overall).
Kudos HP!

The Toshiba R400 has had it as well, honestly its brighter but I don't see it being a massive improvement is quality.

waiting for a non tablet version and for Dells d620 to get the santa rosa treatment, before i make my choice. IM tired of lugging this first gen 17" desktop replacement. Next will definately be a 12" laptop with a custom pc. there will be no replacing of a desktop this time

I was playing with one of these at the local Worst Buy, the display was blank, no "geek" could get it to come on.

got cut off, sorry.
Hopefully the new generation will have display that works, cause I really liked the smallness of the machine.
